Fire In First Floor Flat - Bardfield House

A fire in a first floor flat in a building used as sheltered accommodation on 23 June. The fire was extinguished at 18:00, however two appliances are still at the scene turning over and damping down. The fire may have been burning for anything up-to 30 minutes prior to the Fire Service being called. The whole of the flat is completely destroyed; even the plaster has been burnt off the walls.

There is smoke damage to other areas within the building.

Early indications are that the fire started in or near a sofa; however the cause of the blaze is being investigated jointly by Police and Fire Service.

Stn O Brian Harper said "when firefighters arrived they were confronted with a very serious fire in a flat on the first floor, the whole of the flat was on fire making it was incredibly hot," he added "the firefighters did a brilliant job putting out the fire in these arduous working conditions".
