They went in service with a 2 1/2 inch attack line but the fire had full possession of the second floor causing fire fighters to back out and make an exterior attack. A 2nd Alarm was sounded bringing all West Deptford Companies and neighboring township companies from Wenonah, Woodbury Heights, Mantua, Gibbstown and Deptford Township.
The fire was now through the roof and starting to spread to a large two story commercial building which was separated by an eight foot walkway in the rear. Tower Ladder 926 from Deptford Township was now setting up in the rear of the main fire building and was able to knock down the spread of fire to the exposure building with there 300 gallon tank until a supply line was set up and they went in service with their Tower Ladder.
West Deptford's Tower Ladder (Verga Fire Company) was now working in the front of the building along with many numerous hand lines. Fire fighters were able to stop the spread of the fire to the exposure building but the building did receive minor smoke and water damage. It would take more than two hours before the fire was brought Under Control.
One fire fighter was transported to Underwood Hospital for smoke inhalation by the West Deptford EMS they have all their Units at the scene. Deptford Fire Canteen Unit supplied refreshments to the hundred plus weary firemen.
