Kingston Man Dies In Collision With Fire Truck
United States (Washington) - A 48-year-old Kingston man died Friday morning in traffic collision involving a North Kitsap Fire and Rescue truck. Shortly after 11 a.m. Friday the pumper truck heading south on Miller Bay Road NE attempted to turn left onto NE West Kingston Road and collided with the driver of a 2006 Yamaha YP400 Majesty scooter.

The driver of the scooter, identified as Jason T. Foster of Kingston, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The front left bumper and corner of the engine was damaged. The firefighters were no injured.

North Kitsap Fire & Rescue Chief Dan Smith said the crew of the engine involved as been taken off duty while an investigation is done. The engine's driver, 36, has been with NKF&R for two years. The engine officer, 40, is a 15-year veteran with North Kitsap, according to a statement from the department.

Smith also expressed his condolences in a statement. "Ours is a small and close-knit community. Many will be affected by this terribly sad incident," says Smith, "Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone involved -- especially the man's family and friends."

Scott Wilson, Kitsap County Sheriff's Office spokesman, said traffic investigators were investigating traffic light patterns and other questions to determine who had the right of way.
