Firefighters Battle 7 Blazes On Detroit's West Side
Detroit firefighters were busy in a pocket of the citys west side Monday night, battling seven suspected arson blazes at vacant dwellings in about three hours. They also were called to another fire about five miles away and one of the seven fires rekindled during the spree between 8:45 p.m. and midnight, Detroit Fire Capt. Pat McNulty said. He said seven single-family houses and a 36-unit apartment building were set ablaze.
No one was hurt and no other neighboring structures were damaged. No one is in custody.
The fires were on Kendall, Pinehurst, Hartwell, St. Marys, Monte Vista, Sorrento and in the area of Schoolcraft and Cheyenne. The blaze a few miles away was on Northfield, McNulty said.
McNulty said officials believe the same person or persons may be involved in setting the blazes. Anyone with information about the fires is asked to call 1-800-44-ARSON.
