Structure Fire In Howard County
Approximately 30 firefighters and paramedics are on the scene of a house fire in the 6100 block of Forty Winks Way in Columbia. First arriving units found heavy fire coming from the front side of the split-level home. One patient was quickly removed from the residence by firefighters. Two adult patients were transported to a local hospital with minor injuries. Unfortunately, the family dog did not survive the fire.
The fire was extinguished within approximately 45 minutes, but there was extensive damage to the structure. Fire crews remain on the scene and are working to ensure the fire is fully extinguished and to protect the family's belongings, to the best extent possible, from further damage.
The house will be declared uninhabitable once firefighting operations have ended. Neighbors will be assisting the family with housing in the near future. Members of HCDFRS' Fire Investigation Division (FID) are also on scene and have begun their investigation to determine the cause of the fire. No damage estimates are available.
