Firefighters Extinguish Shopping Center Blaze
United States (Pennsylvania) -
No one in a Friday morning fire at the York Town Center in Springettsbury Township Friday morning. Firefighters were summoned to the shopping plaza at 10:03 a.m. to tame a fire on the roof of Pier 1 Imports, which is under construction, said Robert McCoy, fire chief for the York Area United Fire Department.
McCoy said the fire started when a heater ignited some roofing materials.
The blaze was extinguished in about 15 to 20 minutes.
Some neighboring stores were temporarily evacuated as a precaution, but no merchants were displaced.
"The biggest problem we have right now is the parking lot is a sheet of ice (from water used to fight the fire)," McCoy said.
