Fire Damages Churches 4 Miles Apart
Two fires damaged two Methodist churches in as many days in the Stokesdale area. On Sunday, a fire damaged Mount Zion United Methodist Church, according to WGHP/FOX8, the Winston-Salem Journal's newsgathering partner. The fire was reported around 10 p.m. at the church's location at 3708 Ellisboro Road.

About 50 firefighters from at least seven different departments were on the scene as of around 10:30 p.m. Also there were about 50 church members.

On Saturday, firefighters battled a blaze at Gideon Grove United Methodist Church, which is north of Stokesdale. Flames were shooting through the roof and smoke was billowing from the building at 2865 Gideon Grove Church Road about 11:30 p.m.

The two churches are about 4 miles apart.

It wasn't immediately clear what started either fire.
