Firefighters To Picket Tonight In Everett
More than 100 jakes from across the state are expected to stand in unity with Everett Firefighters Local 143 tonight at an informational picket in front of Everett City Hall to protest their stalled contract negotiations. Union president Craig Hardy said in a statement today the picket is meant to protest Everett Mayor Carlo DeMaria's "total lack of respect for firefighters and the collective bargaining law.

"This picket is not about money or any financial proposals the city has offered during current negotiations," Hardy stressed.

The picket will take place on Broadway from 6 to 8 p.m.

In a Nov. 21 open invitation to fellow firefighters, Hardy said, "The Mayor gave our membership no option but to protest him and show him we are standing together in this fight"

DeMaria's spokeswoman said she would be issuing a response shortly.
