United States (Massachusetts) - The state fire marshal's office is investigating a suspicious fire that destroyed a motel on Route 28 early this morning. Firefighters were called to the Stonehorse Motel, 872 Route 28 around 1:30 a.m. and found it to be 50 percent involved, according to a Harwich Fire Department press release.

Within about 15 minutes the fire had grown to a three-alarm fire, the release states.

Mutual aid from Chatham, Dennis, Brewster, Yarmouth and Orleans responded to the scene, while other units from across the mid- and outer-Cape covered the stations of responding companies.

Early into the fire the roof began to collapse, but no injuries were reported in the blaze at the vacant motel.

The building was a total loss, the release states.
