Gastonia Fire Dept Assisted Cramerton Fire Dept At Train Derailment

The Gastonia Fire Departments Hazmat Team assisted Cramerton Fire Department in checking the rail cars for chemical leaks in a train derailment in Cramerton on Monday afternoon. There were several empty tank cars that were labeled phosphoric acid. There were tank cars of LP gas that did not leak and did not derail. Fortunately, no leaks were found from any tank cars.
There were numerous other agencies assisting including Gaston County Emergency Management, Cramerton Police, Gaston County Police, Gaston County Sheriff's Department, New Hope Fire Department, Community Fire Department, Belmont Fire Department, NC SHP, and Gaston EMS.
The National Highway Transportation Safety Board and Norfolk Southern Railway are investigating the incident.
