EMT Killed While Assisting At Crash Scene
United States (Ohio) - An off-duty Richfield Center volunteer firefighter and emergency medical technician was fatally injured when she was struck by a vehicle Friday morning as she was assisting motorists who were involved in a crash at the intersection of U.S. 20 and Fulton-Lucas Road in Lucas County's Richfield Township, authorities said.

Charolette Adair, 45 of Swanton, was flown to St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center where she was later pronounced dead, according to the Lucas County Sheriff's Office.

Mrs. Adair was on her way to work when she stopped to assist the motorists. She was directing traffic about 7:28 a.m. when she was struck by an eastbound Ford Escape driven by Richard Bigras, 58, of Fayette, Ohio, sheriff deputies said.

Mrs. Adair was also a teacher at Holy Trinity Catholic School near Swanton, deputies said.

The incident remains under investigation and no charges have been filed. It occurred about 20 miles west of Toledo.

Alcohol was not suspected to be a factor, deputies said.

Traffic at the intersection returned to normal about 9:45 a.m., according to the sheriff's office.
