Australia - Police have charged three teenage boys after an early morning fire destroyed parts of Wavell Heights State School in Chermside. Police said a 17-year-old Chermside man and 17-year-old Albany Creek man were charged with arson and entering with intent to commit an indictable offence. They have been held in custody to appear in the Pine Rivers Magistrates Court tomorrow.

Another boy, 16, was charged with one count each of arson and trespass and two counts of enter with intent to commit an indictable offence. He will be dealt with under the provisions of the Youth Justice Act.

Early police reports indicate the blaze broke out in a building on Minore Street at approximately 4.10am.

Police declared a Brisbane state school a crime scene as they investigate the cause of the devastating fire.

The blaze gutted the Minore Street school, just hours before the students were due to return after the Easter school holidays.

Principal John Cattoni has told ABC Radio they have lost a whole wing.
