Stores Destroyed On Atlantic City Boardwalk
United States (New Jersey) -
A three-alarm fire tore through several stores on the Boardwalk in Atlantic City on November 21st consuming half of an arcade building but causing only minimal damage to the boardwalk itself. Shortly after 6:30 PM, A.C.F.D. units were dispatched to 1412 Boardwalk at Tennessee Ave. for multiple calls for a fire. On arrival, units found heavy fire venting from the front of a Pizza Shop on the Boardwalk side of Schiff’s Central Pier, a two-story building housing several stores, connected to a similar building by an attached covered walkway.
The first due engine pulled on to the Boardwalk and quickly put lines in operation. The heavy fire was knocked down, but the flames had a foothold and were spreading throughout the south section of the arcade.
Additional alarms were sounded as heavy smoke pushed from the structure and operations went defensive. Firefighters were able to hold the fire to the south side and at about 11:00 the fire was declared under control. Units remained on the scene into the morning overhauling and checking for hot spots. No serious injuries were reported. Investigators are trying to determine the cause and if the fire started in the Pizzeria, or under the Boardwalk, where the homeless are living.
