Three-Alarm Fire Rips Through Sunnyvale Apartment Complex
United States (California) -
Dozens of people were evacuated from their Sunnyvale apartment complex this morning, as fire crews work to stamp out a three-alarm fire first spotted at 7:25 a.m., a city spokesman said. John Pilger said the Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety has now called for help to battle the blaze raging through one apartment building on West Olive Avenue, half a block east of Mathilda Avenue, about a block from City Hall. Thick smoke can be seen all the way to Palo Alto.
The fire was spotted coming out of a second-floor apartment, Pilger said. The complex is comprised of about half a dozen buildings, with eight to 10 units apiece. The building with the fire plus a nearby building were evacuated, Pilger said.
A couple dozen people were scattered about this morning watching the fire. No one has reported injuries.
