Fire Damages Moxee Hops Processing Plant
United States (Washington) -
A three-alarm fire was called out for a Hop Kilm that caught on fire at 5606 Beauchene Road. Several surrounding fire departments were called on scene including East Valley, West Valley, Selah, Gleed, Naches, Union Gap, and Yakima Fire Department. Because of the water shortage, they were only protecting exposures and let the fire burn.
Due to the winds blowing, it did extend to a structure across the street, which was quickly put out.
There was a fear of rupturing gas tanks or pipes that caused an evacuation of 500 feet from the fire.
Yakima, Washington produces 75% of the nation's hops.
