United States (Connecticut) - Waterbury Fire Crews were dispatched for a motor vehicle accident with an entrapment in front of 37 Chase Avenue. The first due assignment of Engine 1, Ladder 2, and Rescue 9 arrived in less than a minute of the alarm as it was only two blocks from their headquarters. The initial scene size up found one female patient trapped in a Honda Civic, which had impacted with a utility pole.

The crew on Rescue 9 supported by the Ladder 2 crew quickly went to work removing the car’s roof with reciprocating saws and getting the doors sprung with the 2 Hurst tools that are reel mounted on the rescue, while Engine 1 charged two inch and three quarter lines to provide fire suppression if needed.

They then had to utilize their hydraulic rams to roll the dash of the vehicle, which was badly pinning the patient’s lower extremities.

After almost 30 minutes of work, the patient was freed from the wreckage and transported with a trauma alert by the advanced life support unit on scene.
