Firefighter Killed In Fall From Fire Truck Inside His Fire Station
United States (Ohio) -
A volunteer firefighter has been killed after falling off a fire truck inside his fire station in Mechanicsburg in western Ohio. Mechanicsburg fire Chief Gary Shonkwiler says 38-year-old Jon Trainer slipped off the top of a fire truck, fell eight to ten feet and hit his head on the concrete floor last night. The chief says Trainer, who lived in Mechanicsburg, suffered head injuries.
The firefighter fell after he had returned to the station from a house fire. The chief says Trainer was on top of the fire truck laying the hose used to fight the fire back in place.
He was taken to Mercy Medical Center in Urbana, where he was pronounced dead late last night.
Trainer, a firefighter since December 2005, was working at the Honda plant in Marysville in its human resources department, Shonkwiler said.
"It's real difficult right now," the chief said, describing Trainer as an excellent firefighter.
Funeral arrangements are pending.
